WMF has company-owned retail stores in Germany, Austria and Switzerland so they are aware of the needs of the market. With their continuous computer-assisted production stages (from design via model making to tool making) short development cycles of new products are realized. At the company headquarters in Germany state-of-the art production lines help to ensure the future of production facilities.

Cutlery is still a most important part of the WMF production and in the years following the First World War cutlery increased its share within the range reaching 60% of the total turnover. WMF offers a large variety of cutlery shapes to suit every taste. It stands out for its high-grade materials, its first class workmanship and its well-engineered product development. WMF cutlery is trend setting in terms of design through the cooperation with internationally recognised designers.

A decisive factor in the company's history was the securing of exclusive rights to use the special V2A steel developed by Krupp for the production of WMF table and kitchenware items. This material was registered under the name Cromargan. WMF launched its first Cromargan cookware range at the Leipzig Trade Fair in 1927 followed a few years later by the introduction of the first Cromargan cutlery.

The period after World War 2 saw the creation of classic products such as those designed by Wilhelm Wagenfeld which still feature in (or have been reintroduced into) the current WMF collection.

Continued domestic growth through the 60's saw additional factories set up in Hayingen and Riedlingen. This lead to the building of the first WMF subsidiary (in Singapore in 1975). At the same time the most significant investment in the history of WMF was commenced: a computerised warehousing and distribution centre. Both these developments were a response to rapid growth and the increasing internationalisation of markets.

In 2003 WMF celebrated its 150th birthday that has seen it grow from a small plaque factory into an international organisation with 5,500 employees. As a modern design conscious business the organisation is well equipped to move forward into the future.
